PPC vs. SEO: Where Should You Invest Your Marketing Budget?

·

PPC management and paid media — Google Ads and Meta advertising

Should you invest in ads or organic search? It is one of the most common questions we hear from founders, and the honest answer is that PPC and SEO do different jobs. Here is how to decide where your marketing budget should go.

What PPC does well

Pay-per-click advertising — Google Ads and Meta ads — buys you visibility today. It is the fastest way to put your offer in front of high-intent buyers, it is highly measurable, and you can scale it up or down at will. The catch: the moment you stop paying, the traffic stops.

What SEO does well

Search engine optimization is slower to build but compounds over time. Once you rank, qualified visitors keep arriving without a per-click cost. Good SEO also builds trust — people click organic results for a reason — and it strengthens every other channel you run.

The case for doing both

For most businesses, PPC and SEO are not rivals — they are partners:

  • Use PPC to generate leads and revenue while your SEO matures
  • Use SEO to lower your long-term cost per acquisition
  • Use PPC data to learn which keywords and messages convert, then feed that into your SEO

Our recommendation

If you need results this quarter, start with PPC. If you want to lower costs and build an asset, invest in SEO. If you can, run both and let them reinforce each other. Not sure how to split your budget? That is exactly the kind of question we help founders answer.
